Field PersonnelReports to Pipe Foreman.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Set up laser
- Make sure pipe is laid and fits correctly
- Know when a trench is unsafe to enter
- Heavy lifting and shoveling up to 80 lbs.
- Ability to work in adverse weather onditions
- Must be able to mount and dismount off of vehicles and/or equipment
- Attend weekly safety meetings
- Climb vertical ladders
- Wear hard hat and work in dusty conditions
- General labor work/clean up
- Keep work area organized and safe
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Job requires frequent lifting of 25 – 100 lbs., stretching, stooping, bending, squatting, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and kneeling.

Field PersonnelThe Pipe Layer is responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains and pipelines. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement, glue or plastic welding.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Install sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems
- Cut pipes to required lengths
- Assist in aligning pipes during pipeline construction
- Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing
- Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers
- Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, or glue
- Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices
- Cover pipes with earth or other materials
- Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools
- Train others in pipe-laying techniques
- Other General Labor and construction related duties as required.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Must be able to follow building plans or blueprints and instructions from supervisors, lay out the job, and work efficiently with the materials and tools of their trade.
- Must be physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting (in excess of 50 lbs.);
- The ability to comprehend and follow specific instructions;
- Interpersonal competencies that include a drive for results, effective oral and written communication skills, organization, planning, trust, respect, being dependable and cooperation.

Field PersonnelRoles and Responsibilities
- Studies project specifications with project superintendent to plan procedures for pipe installation sequencing
- Coordinates and supervises daily activities of pipe crew
- Operates assigned heavy equipment to excavate, install and backfill large pipe and culvert
- Observes assigned equipment to detect machinery malfunctions
- Inspects work site to determine method of pipe installation and survey for potential hazards or safety concerns
- Plans drain pipe installation to reduce interference with other project activities and public roadways and sidewalks
- Inspects work to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules
- Uses instruments such as lasers, grade rods, eye levels and transit levels to set appropriate grade for pipe installation
- Enforces company policies and procedures
- Responsible for crew safety
- Establish safe work environment that complies with OSHA standards and company safety program
- Comply with federal, state and company environmental policies
- Reviews employee time cards
- Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Minimum 3 years’ experience in Underground Utility Work
